4 Most Common Door Types for Commercial Buildings

January 22, 2024 | Commercial Doors

Most Common Door Types for Commercial BuildingsCommercial doors are made to handle heavy traffic. With people, cargo, and forklifts passing through them hundreds of times a day, they have to be exceptionally strong, capable of withstanding far more wear and tear than their residential counterparts. If your business is looking to upgrade or replace its entryway, these are the most common commercial door types you ought to consider.

Rolling Doors

Rather than swing open, rolling doors are pulled up and coiled around a spindle mounted above the door frame. When they’re closed, the door slides down, guided by tracks on either side of the frame, before being locked in place. Rolling doors are made from interlocking steel or aluminum slats, forming a continuous curtain that can be raised or lowered over your doorway. The compact design saves space. It also enhances durability and security, making them a popular choice for industrial sites, loading bays, and shipping centers.

Overhead Doors

Overhead doors slide up and back overhead into the building. Some are made from a single panel while others are sectional. Single panel doors require clearance equal to their height in front of the door frame, but sectional overhead doors require the same clearance behind them. The main advantage of overhead doors is the degree of customization they provide. Unlike roll-up doors, they can accommodate glass windows. They’re also easy to soundproof and insulate.

Automatic Doors

Automatic doors are a popular choice for hospitals, convention centers, airports, shopping malls, hotels ‒ any place with high foot traffic or where pedestrians can utilize a hands free solution to open the doors. These doors are activated without your hands, which makes them both convenient and sanitary. Door handles accumulate germs quickly, increasing the likelihood of a visitor catching or spreading illnesses through your company.

Glass Doors

The most popular common commercial door type for retailers and office buildings, glass is attractive, durable, and easy to maintain. Choose aluminum framed doors for strength or frameless glass doors provide a more modern look. Custom hardware and handles are also available to meet your needs and budget.

I recently was looking for some work to be done at my facility in Culver City and a friend recommended Vortex. I gave them a call they came out and gave me a free quote for tinting some windows. I told them the price looks good, but I needed it done ASAP. They said no problem and were out that week and got me taken care of. The windows look great! I would highly recommend them.

Honestly there was a point where I wanted to change vendors but when they sent us Eric Rivera over to us he really turned things around for us here at Sci-Arc he really takes care of us to the point where I know hes going to fix the issue for us. His knowledge of our doors is really amazing to where I'm surprised he's still in the field and has not been promote which would be a great loos for us to lose him. But over all if you want it done right make sure they send you Eric super honest and pays attention to the smallest detail which is cleaning up after he done and wouldn't even know he worked on anything.
